We believe that good health goes beyond physical well-being—it also includes nurturing young minds. That’s why we’re proud to participate in Reach Out and Read, a national program that promotes early childhood literacy by integrating books and reading into pediatric care.

Why Early Literacy Matters

The first few years of a child’s life are critical for brain development. Studies show that children who are exposed to books and reading at an early age have stronger language skills, a larger vocabulary, and better overall academic success. Reading together also strengthens the bond between children and caregivers, fostering emotional well-being alongside cognitive growth.

Despite these benefits, many children—especially those in underserved communities—grow up without access to books at home. Without early exposure to reading, they may start school already behind their peers, making it harder to catch up academically. That’s where Reach Out and Read comes in.

How Our Clinic Supports Early Literacy

Through our Reach Out and Read program, we:

  • Give Free Books to Young Patients – During well-child visits, we provide age-appropriate books to children from infancy through age five. Each book is carefully chosen to encourage engagement and a love for reading.
  • Encourage Reading at Home – Our providers talk with parents about the importance of reading aloud, offering tips on how to make storytime interactive and enjoyable.
  • Create a Literacy-Friendly Environment – We stock our waiting area with books and resources that promote early literacy, ensuring that children see reading as a fun and normal part of daily life.

Making a Lasting Impact

Research has shown that families who participate in Reach Out and Read, read together more often, and their children enter school better prepared to learn. By integrating literacy into pediatric care, we are giving kids the tools they need to succeed—both in school and in life.

We are proud to support early childhood literacy and to make a difference in our community. If you’d like to learn more about our Reach Out and Read program or get involved, feel free to reach out to our clinic!

Together, we can help every child develop a lifelong love of reading.
